Awards 2024

The Institute of Internal Auditors-Australia (IIA-Australia) acknowledges the significant contributions its members make to their respective organisations, the professional practice of internal auditing, and the ongoing initiatives of IIA-Australia. These contributions are made either individually or collectively as internal audit teams.

IIA-Australia has established a suite of  awards to recognise members or teams who demonstrate outstanding contributions to their organisations, the professional practice of internal auditing, and the industry as a whole.

Bob McDonald Award

Named after the first Australian to hold the position of International Chairman of IIA Global, the Bob McDonald Award recognises an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the internal audit profession in Australia, to the IIA, or to the theory and practice of internal audit. Past winners have been pioneers, exceptional leaders, advocates and champions who through their work and ethics have elevated the internal audit profession. 

Internal Auditor of the Year
Award

This Award recognises an individual’s contribution as an internal auditor to their organisation's performance through the delivery of a major strategic outcome while upholding the Standards. 

Internal Audit Team of the Year
Award

Team of the Year, recognises an internal audit function/team that excels in the provision of internal audit services to their organisation and contributes to the elevation of the profession generally. 

Emerging Internal Audit Leader of the Year Award

The Emerging Internal Audit Leader Award recognises superior and progressive contributions by an individual to their organisation and/or internal audit profession. Enthusiastic and passionate about governance and risk assurance, past winners have brought innovation and perspective to the profession.

IIA-Australia Champion of the Year

People who give their time and energy to help the profession and others in the profession are the lifeblood of IIA. The Champion of the Year Award recognises meritorious service and contributions to IIA-Australia membership. 

IIA-Australia Life Member

The Life Member Award recognises a person who has made a lifelong commitment to the IIA-Australia and the professional practice of internal auditing or relevant professional discipline. These are the people who have advanced the profession to where it is today for our benefit. 

Academic
Awards

IIA-Australia Graduate Certificate in Internal Auditing Merit Award

This Award recognises the student who achieved the highest performance in the Graduate Certificate in Internal Auditing in an academic year.  This merit award is judged solely on academic performance and is awarded at SOPAC®

IIA-Australia CIA Merit Award

Recognising the best overall test performance across all the CIA assessments in a calendar year, this Award also celebrates learning. This merit award is judged solely on academic performance and is awarded at SOPAC®.

SOPAC® 2025

The Institute of Internal Auditors - Australia is hosting SOPAC® 2025, Australia’s premier event for internal auditors, risk, governance, assurance and compliance professionals in Melbourne from 31 March to 2 April 2025.

We are excited to announce that the conference will be delivered in a hybrid format integrating the benefits of face-to-face, held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), and virtually. In-person delegates will have the opportunity to participate in the full SOPAC® experience and virtual attendees will have the opportunity to access technical and keynote sessions live online (excluding lunch speaker/s, social events and pre-conference activities).

Overall, the event is expected to attract more than 500 delegates including many from the region’s leading organisations. Delegates represent a broad cross-section from government, private sector, commerce and industry.
