The Bob McDonald
Award

Named after the first Australian to hold the position of International Chairman of IIA Global, the Bob McDonald Award recognises an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the internal audit profession in Australia, to the IIA, or to the theory and practice of internal audit. Past winners have been pioneers, exceptional leader, advocates and champions who through their work and ethics have elevated the internal audit profession.

Prize

The Award recipient will receive:

  • Citation and engraved plaque

  • Two complimentary ticket to SOPAC® gala dinner

  • One economy air fare and two room nights’ accommodation *

Eligibility

To be eligible, a nominee must be:

  • able to demonstrate outstanding and significant contributions to the profession through any of the following:

    • Actively maintaining the highest professional Standards and contributing to the profession’s growth and success within Australia.

    • Acting in accordance with the Standards to deliver a major public justice or business improvement.

    • Supporting others enter the profession and/or achieve professional growth.

    • Leading the IIA as a volunteer, locally and/or internationally.

    • Developing innovative professional solutions and sharing these with the profession.

    • Conducting research, authoring technical publications and advancing the shared knowledge base of professional practice.

  • A financial Professional Member of IIA-Australia.

People who are ineligible to apply:​

  • IIA Global and IIA-Australia Board and Board Committee members at the time of nomination or judging are not eligible. 

  • Any person who has directly or indirectly received payment for work performed for IIA-Australia in the 12 months prior to nomination.

Process & Requirements

  1. Nominations close midnight AEDT 1 December 2024.

  2. The IIA-Team may conduct a preliminary screening interview with eligible candidates’ and/or referees.  

  3. The judging panel will review and determine shortlists (noting that if they believe there is no suitable candidate none will be awarded).  

  4. Shortlisted candidates will be notified 18 December 2024. At this time, shortlisted candidates will be asked to commit to a panel interview the week commencing 3 February 2025, ensure their referees are are available for a call that same week, and make travel plans to attend the SOPAC Gala Dinner in Melbourne on 1 April 2025

  5. The judging panel will determine the winner of each Award and this will remain confidential until announced on the night. 

  6. Winners announced at SOPAC Gala Dinner.
